For a UK buyer, the useful question is which printed-carton producer can make your specific retail pack at the required volume, approval standard and delivery point. The ten businesses below have published folding-carton or printed cartonboard capabilities relevant to UK projects. They are a research shortlist, not a quality ranking; production location, minimum run, available board and current capacity should be confirmed in each RFQ. Company information was checked against their own websites on 26 September 2026.
Here “printed carton” means a die-cut and creased paperboard retail carton, including sleeves and trays where specified. It is different from a corrugated transit box. For shipping protection, use our UK corrugated supplier guide; this page focuses on printed retail cartons and the proof, converting and filling decisions behind a comparable quote.
How this UK shortlist was selected
We included businesses whose own sites describe cartonboard print or converting relevant to UK buyers and gave priority to a distinct capability a purchaser can investigate: short-run digital work, premium finishes, food-sector packs, machine filling, or integrated packing. Company descriptions below identify the public evidence and a question to ask. Inclusion does not imply endorsement, an independently audited factory visit, or a guaranteed production slot.
| Supplier | Publicly described focus | Good first question |
|---|---|---|
| Elanders Print & Packaging | Product packaging and folding cartons | Which site converts this SKU and what proof is supplied? |
| Robinson Paperbox | Chesterfield paperboard and premium structures | Is a folding carton or rigid paperbox better for this product? |
| Affinity Packaging | Printed cartons and filling-line development | Can the crease and glue pattern be tested on our line? |
| Alexir Partnership | Digital/litho print, cartons and co-packing | How do short-run revisions affect the setup and unit cost? |
| Millvale | Litho printing and cartonboard converting | Which finish and board combination is available? |
| GCP (Glossop Cartons) | Cartonboard retail and display packs | Can a plain structural sample precede a printed proof? |
| Qualvis Print & Packaging | Carton styles and structural development | Which closure and presentation suits our retail channel? |
| Delga | Digital printed cartons and labels | How are colour and artwork changes controlled? |
| Bridger Packaging | Cartonboard and microflute, finishing | Do we need cartonboard or microflute for the packed weight? |
| Autajon Packaging Simply Cartons | Premium cartons from Nottingham | Which embellishment can be shown on a finished proof? |
10 printed-carton manufacturers to evaluate in the UK
1. Elanders Print & Packaging
Official capability page: Elanders Print & Packaging. Elanders describes product packaging from classic folding cartons to tailored boxes through its Print & Packaging business. For a multi-market print programme, ask which UK or group site will print and convert your exact specification, how version control works and whether repeat orders use the approved colour reference. The public page supports its packaging scope; it does not establish a universal MOQ or that every order is made at one UK site.

2. Robinson Paperbox
Official capability page: Robinson Paperbox. Robinson describes folding-carton capabilities and a Chesterfield paperbox operation. This is relevant when a buyer is comparing a lightweight retail carton with a more substantial rigid paperbox or tray and sleeve. Ask for a structural sample with the actual product and packing method, and specify whether you need flat delivery, premium wrap or both.

3. Affinity Packaging
Official capability page: Affinity Packaging. Affinity publishes printed-carton manufacturing capability and describes sample cartons and small batches at its Leyland site. It is worth asking about a machine trial if your carton must erect, fill or close on an automated line. Quote the board grade, closure, glue seam and expected filling speed rather than sending only a visual mock-up.

4. Alexir Partnership
Official capability page: Alexir Partnership. Alexir describes digital and lithographic printing, folding and glueing, plus wider co-packing services. That combination may suit frequent artwork versions or a product that needs packing after conversion. Ask whether a digital pilot matches the intended production route for colour, finish and crease behaviour; a small pilot should not be assumed to represent the economics of a larger litho run.

5. Millvale Ltd
Official capability page: Millvale Ltd. Millvale describes itself as an Evesham commercial printer specialising in printed and plain cartonboard packaging, with lithographic print and finishing services. It is a candidate for buyers who need to compare a conventional printed carton with different varnish or laminate finishes. Request a physical proof for scuff-sensitive surfaces and clarify the final board and pack-out specification.

6. GCP (Glossop Cartons)
Official capability page: GCP (Glossop Cartons). GCP says it manufactures printed cartonboard packaging and works across food, drink, household and beauty. Its published range also includes retail display formats. Ask whether the primary carton and display tray can be developed together, and separate structural approval from artwork/finish approval. Its website describes both plain structural samples and fully printed samples.

7. Qualvis Print & Packaging
Official capability page: Qualvis Print & Packaging. Qualvis publishes a range of carton styles and structural concepts. It is useful to compare when shelf presentation or an alternative carton construction matters as much as decoration. Ask for a dieline, assembled sample and a quotation that names the board, glue pattern, finish and any custom tooling rather than comparing a rendered pack alone.

8. Delga
Official capability page: Delga. Delga describes UK printed folding cartonboard packaging and labels and advertises HP Indigo digital printing. It is a relevant enquiry for multiple artwork versions or cartons and labels that must carry coordinated graphics. Confirm which board, varnish and colour target can be repeated at the intended run size, and ask how revised files are identified before press approval.
Request a quote9. Bridger Packaging
Official capability page: Bridger Packaging. Bridger says it manufactures printed, digital and plain cartonboard as well as microflute packaging, with in-house varnish, foil, embossing and film-window options. It is especially relevant when the product weight or retail route raises the question of solid board versus microflute. Request a transit and shelf trial with the actual product before treating either construction as sufficient.
Request a quote10. Autajon Packaging Simply Cartons
Official capability page: Autajon Packaging Simply Cartons. Autajon identifies Simply Cartons as its Nottingham UK operation producing premium cartons for beauty, food and spirits. For high-visibility decoration, ask for a finished production-representative proof and confirm the artwork, substrate, foil or embossing tolerance and filling method. Availability for a specific run should be checked directly.
Other UK sourcing routes in the original article
The earlier version also named two suppliers useful to UK buyers whose route differs from a UK carton-converting factory. They remain here with the original images so buyers can compare like with like. Their inclusion is separate from the ten UK producers above.
SAXOPRINT: online ordering with production outside the UK
SAXOPRINT offers configurable packaging to UK customers, while its own production information describes a German production plant. Check manufacturing origin, delivery terms and the range of structural choices before treating an online configuration as a bespoke UK factory quote.

Maxipos: packaging sourcing and project coordination
Maxipos describes a network of production partners in the UK and other countries, rather than a single in-house carton factory. This can suit a mixed packaging brief, but ask which partner will make each component and who controls proofs and final quality.

Compare the same specification before selecting a supplier
A lower quote can reflect a different board, decoration or delivery scope. Send one controlled RFQ version to each candidate and request exceptions in writing. This photograph illustrates the structure and proof items a buyer can review; it is not a documented factory test or a customer order.

| RFQ item | State or approve | Why it changes the quote |
|---|---|---|
| Finished pack | Internal dimensions, product weight, closure and filling method | Board area, die, glue and machine compatibility |
| Board | Named grade, grammage or caliper, white/brown surfaces and required documentation | Appearance, crease behaviour, availability and compliance |
| Artwork versions, colours, ink coverage and colour reference | Plate/setup route, changeovers and repeatability | |
| Finish | Varnish, laminate, foil, embossing, window and scuff expectation | Extra processes, tooling and proof requirements |
| Quantity and logistics | Per-SKU quantity, split deliveries, flat/assembled pack-out and UK delivery postcode | Run economics, storage and landed cost |
For a fast-moving fill line, first approve the actual die line and a plain erected sample, then a finished proof on the proposed board. Check crease cracking, tuck or glue closure, product fit, barcode readability and scuff risk. Premium foil or window positions should be checked after folding, not only on a flat printed sheet. Food-contact or pharmaceutical requirements depend on the exact materials, application and market; request project-specific documentation instead of assuming a general claim covers your pack.
Where Pakoro fits for a UK buyer
Pakoro is a China-based custom paper packaging manufacturer and is not counted among the ten UK producers above. It can be compared as an offshore option when a buyer needs coordinated printed cartons, corrugated outers or premium boxes and can plan for sampling, international freight and import responsibilities. See Pakoro’s paper carton box capabilities. Compare the delivered specification and total landed cost against a UK quote; no MOQ, lead time or savings percentage can be promised without the final brief.

The video above is the original Pakoro equipment footage retained from this article. It is not evidence of the UK suppliers’ operations or a test of the illustrated carton structures.
UK production or import: a practical trade-off
| Decision factor | UK production | China sourcing to the UK |
|---|---|---|
| Urgent replenishment or frequent small changes | Ask for a local production slot and delivery plan | Include international transit, customs and buffer stock |
| Proof and colour approval | Site visits or local physical proofs may be practical | Agree shipped proof, reference and remote sign-off procedure |
| Price comparison | Include setup, repeat storage and domestic freight | Include tooling, freight, duties, tax treatment and inventory carrying cost |
| Mixed retail and transit packs | Check each producer’s range | Ask whether cartons and corrugated outers can be coordinated |
Neither route is automatically cheaper or faster. Compare quotations using the same approved board, dieline, finish, quantity, inspection criteria and delivery point. This UK printed-carton shortlist serves a different decision from our broader UK folding-carton overview, which discusses the carton category rather than this evidence-led RFQ comparison.
Questions buyers ask before placing an order
Can the cheapest digital sample be used as the production colour standard?
Only if the supplier agrees that the sample process and substrate represent the intended production route. For a later litho run, specify an approved colour target or press proof and accept tolerances in writing.
Who owns the die and artwork files?
Ask whether tooling is charged, retained or transferable, and request the final dieline and revision number. Confirm who signs off barcode, legal copy and final artwork before a repeat order.
How should a carton be tested for online delivery?
A retail folding carton may need a separate corrugated outer or insert. Test the complete packed system with the real product and distribution route; board thickness alone does not establish transit performance.
What if the product touches food?
Tell each supplier whether contact is direct or indirect, the food type, time, temperature and market. Request documentation for the final board, inks, coatings and adhesives for that exact intended use.
Send a complete printed-carton brief
For a Pakoro quote, send the finished internal size, product dimensions and weight, carton style or reference, target board, artwork and colour requirements, finishes or window, quantity per design, flat-pack or assembled delivery, and UK delivery postcode. Say whether the carton touches food or runs on automatic filling equipment. We can then discuss the structure and a sample approval route before a production quotation. Send the specification here.
